'The October 9' Album
1. Electric Pond, Dead Fowl (2:16) - I made this the first day, and though I didn’t realize I was starting a one-song-per-day-album that day, I did more or less complete this that first day.
Called as such due to being similar chords to Duckpond, which was recorded day 2. Added some duck and pond sounds (I think) and it’s sort of a ‘prequel’ song now.
2. Duckpond (3:50) - This song really kicked off the project. I did this on my 2nd day of 9 days off, realized it sounded a lot like the one from the day before and a plan was imagined.
A story about lost love, ducks, a rock that looks like George W. Bush, and hidden coastal beaches.
3. Sleep with Sin in the Crypt of the Cursed (5:17) - This one is a combination of some Brown Sludge (c) in the first part, and some Sabbath-esqe riffs and singing in the 2nd part.
This is the 2nd version of the vocals, where I tried to do it a bit nasally or something, trying a different inflection in my voice. Ehhh.
4. Balancing (4:27) - Balancing was day 5 of the project. A little bit of funk near the end, with the keyboard sax providing some bumps.
Life’s about finding a balance, you dig? We juggle our day to day responsibilities with our passions, what we want vs what we need, and figuring out where we can be the happiest. Not easy but worth the effort.
5. A Streak Across the Sky (4:06) - This was the one part that was written before the project started - I had the keyboard part to this as something I would noodle on. It sounded like some Daft Punk Tron Legacy to me and inspired some sci-fi imagery.
This became the first track in the series about space and the future catastrophe that would end up becoming the main theme of the project.
6. Silent Sleep Pt. 1 (1:17) - The Silent Sleep series were made at the end of the night of day #6, as extra content extending the day’s story. Thought of it as ‘the dream our protagonist is having while being resurrected’. At first they were all one track, but I split it up.
Part 1 includes the two doctors that remain in the building - they’re surprised that our hero isn’t dead, but is still being sent down for re-awakening - and realize what that news portends.
7. Silent Sleep Pt. 2 (3:32) - Part 2 is the experience our hero’s mind takes as it undergoes the clearing out and clean wash happening due to the re-awakening. As large as the universe and as small as an atom, the storm washes over, wiping all away.
8. Silent Sleep Pt. 3 (2:13) - Part 3 is the aurora borealis-like wave of understanding, complex simplicity, and readiness of a well-rested mind or newly booted process. Ready to compute.
9. The World Has Moved On (6:02) This is sung after it has all happened. A survivor tells the story about the fall of humanity, lamenting over our decline while longing for those that were lost.
Ask me about how a single Bb note delayed this project sometime.
10. Solid State (5:21) - Some people are always unsettled, upset by their own circumstances, often self-imposed. Their resting state is anything but that - and they can’t seem to help themselves from sharing it to anyone who will listen.
11. Burned (4:54) - There are things people do to others that, no matter what is said or done later, can’t be unmade, or undone. They say don’t burn your bridges, but sometimes you have to make sure that shit doesn’t get over to your side ever again.
I took off one track, “Don’t Remind Me” made during this, as I’m just not a fan anymore.
