Original Songs
1. Medicinal Mint (6:39) - I wrote this song in late 2019, after brushing my teeth, thinking about how all the products we use for our teeth are minty - to taste good to us, but also don’t ever swallow this tasty thing that tastes good. From July 2020.
2. Red Sky (5:01) - I took the first three lines from a song my brother Cameron wrote, and embellished on what they seemed to mean to me. A slow, sludge-y scunge through a dusty tale. From July 2020.
3. Desire the Deep Water (2:56) - A waltz about the sea with some odd singing and another a bit inspired by Tom Waits. This track was revised, but the original led me to my October 9 ‘one song a day’ plan - this one was written and recorded one night in August 2020. One of my only ones in 3/4. From March 2021.
4. Donkey Turkey (2:19) - This is just me fucking around with ableton live - looped the Tom Waitsy beat box and jammed some bass with it. From March 2021.
5. The Wine Man (2:19) - A bit inspired by Gogol Bordello, this song is about a man named Sergei that makes and delivers wine to the entire small town in which he lives. It is a solitary life, but he knows he makes people happy. From March 2021.
6. The Doctor Is In (2:43) - Another spoken word, Tom Waits-y story set to some music I had looped from 2020. Originally called “Devils Due Waltz”, I had a distortion setting and was inspired to tell a tale of a strange land. From April 2021.
7. Skill the Charm (5:37) - This one is a bit of a tribute to my brother Cameron. He joked about popular songs having dumb choruses and came up with ‘Skill the Charm, skill the charm, carve the words into your arm’ that would have been some sort of classic rock song. So, I wrote that in a way, and fleshed out a story around it. Added a little reggae part in the middle. From July 2021
8. Caves of Despair (3:04) and
9. Caves of Longing (3:14) - These are both just spacey, reverb filled improvisations using some Logic Pro effects. Felt like maybe a series of tracks I could do. From Summer ‘22.
10. Bury the Flame (3:26) - This was sort of inspired by Pink Floyd The Wall, with hopefully a bit of a similar vibe as some of the loneliness, longing and despair as some of the scenes in The Wall. From Summer ‘22.
11. A Night in Mansoura (1:34) - Another instrumental, this time using MIDI Guitar sounds to do a little Am E progression with some ambiance. From Summer ‘22.
12. Underwater Depths (7:16) - Yet again, instrumental session using some nice reverb and whatnot for a soundscape. Sounded sort of water like to me. From Summer ‘22.
13. Morbid Tomb (5:23) - A bit of Tool-like track, but with an acoustic guitar for most of it. Pretty sloppy, using keyboard drums but fun to play. From Fall ‘20.
14. The Triangle (2:49) - This one is a simple chord progression written in an open C tuning on the guitar, at the very least so I’d have something else to play when tuned down there for Silverfish, SD. From spring ‘22.
15. Take a Walk with Me and Bring Your Consciousness, Man (5:30) - This is one of the only tracks I made using Ableton Live. Some spoken word rambling drawing a bit from both Raleigh from Sublime and some Bob Odenkirk characters. From Spring ‘21.
16. Discover Your Sorrow (2:16) - Not too dissimilar from ‘Credits’ as far as chords go, but a nice little instrumental that I like. From Fall ‘21.
